RARE UNCLE JOHN'S SYRUP
THE REAL FLAVOR FROM THE MAPLE GROVE
This mint die cardboard art advertising sign was made in the 1920’s-1940’s to promote Uncle John’s Syrup. Shown is the full sign. When it was used as a display, it was folded, making it a sales platform. Pictured is J.B. Shurtleff, better known as “Uncle John”, who is pointing to cans of his famous syrup. Printed in bold colors, this vintage store display measures 17” x 14” and is in excellent condition.
* What is Syrup? *
In cooking, a syrup or sirup is a condiment that is a thick, viscous liquid consisting primarily of a solution of sugar in water, containing a large amount of dissolved sugars but showing little tendency to deposit crystals. Its consistency is similar to that of molasses. The viscosity arises from the multiple hydrogen bonds between the dissolved sugar, which has many hydroxyl groups.
