Formation: Trinitite formed when the immense heat generated by the detonation of a plutonium implosion-type atomic bomb, nicknamed "The Gadget," fused the surrounding desert sand and other materials into a molten mass. This material was then rapidly cooled, solidifying into the glassy substance we now call Trinitite.
