Early Christian Religious Adornment

Age - 16th - 18th Century

Discovered - Europe

These are original examples of religious adornments that were part of Christian reliquary and prayer boxes that were used to hold sacred items such as pieces of the true cross, blessed objects, bones, or clothes of Saints that would be used in Christian ceremonies and unique to each Church or mission. This artifact was discovered by a metal detectorist in the ancient town and village sites before they were destroyed by modern development and urban sprawl.

Its adherents, known as Christians, make up a majority of the population in 157 countries and territories, and believe that Jesus is the Christ, whose coming as the Messiah was prophesied in the Hebrew Bible, called the Old Testament in Christianity, and chronicled in the New Testament.
