A late-war German S84/98 knife bayonet made for use with the Mauser Karabiner 98k rifle. Often described by collectors as a “last ditch” variation, this example features simplified construction with wooden grip panels secured by screws, a straight crossguard, steel pommel with mounting slot, and a single-edged, fullered blade.

The bayonet includes a dark steel scabbard and a leather and web belt frog. It measures approximately 15 inches overall, with the full set measuring around 16 inches when sheathed.

The piece shows substantial age and service wear throughout. The blade retains a darkened finish with scratches, oxidation, spotting, and areas of finish loss. The wooden grips exhibit staining, cracking, scratches, and general wear. The scabbard has a dark patina with scattered corrosion and surface wear. The frog is heavily worn, with discoloration, fraying, stiffness, cracking, and deterioration consistent with age.

A character-filled WWII German military collectible retaining its bayonet, scabbard, and frog. Please review all photographs carefully for condition, markings, and identifying details.
