In 711, Muslim general Tariq ibn-Ziyad invaded Spain
The coins of al Andalus saw the ban ban on the representation man and animals on coinage. The Qur'an explicitly says that the art of writing is of divine essence (sura 96, verse 4) resulting in the inscriptions having both a function of religious proselytism and an aesthetic role.
