A World War I-era German Model 1898/05 bayonet, commonly known among collectors as the “butcher blade” bayonet because of its broad, heavy blade. This example is dated 1917 and features wooden grip panels, a hooked quillon, a prominent full-length fuller, and the distinctive curved blade profile associated with the S98/05 pattern.

Included is its steel scabbard, which has a substantial impact dent identified on the accompanying tag as a bullet strike. The dent and surrounding wear give the piece an especially dramatic, battlefield-worn appearance, though the exact cause of the damage has not been independently verified.

The bayonet and scabbard display extensive age and service wear, including oxidation, dark patina, surface pitting, scratches, staining, finish loss, and wear to the wooden grips and metal fittings. The blade has areas of discoloration and old corrosion but retains its strong overall form.

A visually striking Imperial German military collectible with an unusual damaged scabbard and plenty of character. Please review all photographs carefully for condition, markings, and identifying details.
