Ice Age Paleo Spear Point Base
Age: 14,000 - 9,000 Years Old - Paleo Period
Artifact: Paleo Atlatl Point Base
Discovered: North America
The tools made by North Americas' first inhabitants, the Paleo Indians are very distinctive with few complete examples surviving. The spear point was hafted onto a shaft and used with the Atlatl, the first weapon system invented by humans. The base was secured by cordage, leaving the blade exposed. Once the blade was broken, the base such as this example would be discarded. This artifact was collected on a Paleo site in the Western United States and is an example of their technology.
