Union Poker Chip
Even though gambling was forbidden for enlisted, it was a very active part of Civil War Military Life. In between pay periods, soldiers would cut off and flatten uniform buttons to substitute for coins. This was a popular loophole in the gambling regulation that kept the Union Army together. This artifact was discovered at a Union Campsite and is an example of such a poker chip.
