U.S. Military On The Frontier

1850's - 1880's

The vast and wild American Frontier was made safe for settlement through the efforts of the U.S. Military. This difficult task was achieved through a string of tiny forts scattered across the territories and patrols that extended hundreds of miles through an open and unsettled continent. These artifacts were collected on private property in the 1960's by metal detectorist searching military camp sites across Southern New Mexico including near Fort Craig, Fort Union, For Cummings and other military sites of the area.
