At the end of the Civil War, many regiments would cut up their battle flags into small squares where they would be distributed to the remaining men. This is one of those Veteran's war trophies. This small piece is from the Battle Flag of the 7th Kentucky Cavalry (Union) which mastered in 1862 and served until July 1865. this regiment was engaged in many battles and skirmishes with this battle flag flying alongside the fighting.
