Civil War Grape Shot - "Last - Ditch Effort"

During infantry assaults on artillery position, when the cannoneers saw that their positions were about to be over run, as a last ditch effort they would load canasters full of round iron balls like this one into the cannon, turning it into a giant shotgun. This was the deadliest and most effective weapon during the Civil War.
